Re: Devinez ce que je construis?
Indeed,
I have been talking to Sanada-san and he has been giving me some more details on the car. If you didn't know Koji Sanada is now the CEO of Mugen.
He says the original cars were taken apart however he did give me a few details.

Re: Devinez ce que je construis?
So Koji Sanada is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mugen today, he runs the company.
The car that won wasn't heavily modified from stock however he did have some information on it. The cars were used for press photos and broken up eventually. Mugen do not own the cars nor does Sanada-san.
The engine was a Novarossi Nova 2000 but it has the Red Mugen cylinder head from the Mugen 3.5 engine. These I have. The manifold was standard Mugen and the muffler was the Mugen EFRA optional part. The fuel filter was standard Mugen from the Supersport range.

Re: Devinez ce que je construis?
We haven't yet talked about set-up but it's my intention to do so.
We talked about the body colour and sadly he couldn't remember what actual colour it was. Looking at photos at the time we decided on Tamiya French Blue as the closest match. The cars don't exist anymore and we thought that would be representative.
I had been restoring a Supersport anyway so it will be a fairly simple process to change my restoration to his car. I now have all the bits I need for the build, it's just getting it finished. I will of course put some pictures up to show my progress.
One of my last things to find out is what brand of Radio Gear was fitted, Sanada-san doesn't remember and nothing online in articles says what brand it was. The photos online don't give much away either. My money will be on an Asian brand so probably Sanwa or Futaba. Now need to do a search of 1990 era servos to try and match them up. I'm starting with Sanwa as these seem to be more popular in cars of the time.

Hi all,
Progress: https://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index. ... ica-build/
I am looking for someone willing to perhaps swap a set of the blue shocks for a set of the original ones. They will need to be in good clean condition. The original race car used the original Mugen shocks and I dont have a set.
If interested let me know.
Adam

Hi Adam,
I’m interested in buying your Mugen NIB exhaust or swap it for the original shocks.

Re: Devinez ce que je construis?
Hi all,
Been a while so though I would bring you up to date. These are the two cars I will make one out of. The green donor car and the car to be the replica
The green car will give me parts that I need for the replica. Mainly the chassis plate, RX cover, switch cover, fuel filter, vintage Sanwa servos and a few odd parts.
They came off quite easily
The green car came with the competition wheel nuts but not the competition wheels so they came off and were sold on Ebay
I managed to swap the good blue set of shocks for a set of new original shocks with @Gerardu11. These originals will go on the replica
The donor car got a new black chassis as the one fitted was the lightweight racing chassis. the donor will then be cleaned and rebuilt.
Donors top deck was sanded and repainted ready for the rebuild
Donors metal parts were cleaned
and all the screws had the heads polished ready to go in an ultrasonic cleaner
Sadly the donors centre diff bearing tube snapped (it was cracked anyway) so i had to order a broken one (it has the bit i need) from Italy
Started to work on cleaning the donors fuel tank. Hot water and denture cleaner is slowly making progress on it.
So slowly turning all this on the donor into parts for the replica car and also a nice donor to resell.
The racing chassis has been painted and looks like this
I found a set of the original wing washers for the replica on Ebay so purchased them
and finally started the donor rebuild. It looks like this at the moment
More to come soon

What is the current status of the project ?
Re: Devinez ce que je construis?
Hi all,
Thanks for the comments. There has been progress on the car.I couldn't yet find another Sanwa Contest HH servo so made my own decals for a Sanwa servo that looks like the original and fitted them using the same vintage screws.
I got the correct front tires fitted
Started work on the servo linkages
and have started work on the correct decal set for the car, I am hoping that Bruno_T can help me finish my decal set but I have had no reply from him
I am also working on replicating the air filter mount as I know Sanada-san made it himself. Just mounted the exhaust as I finally found some grey exhaust tubing but no pictures yet. Slowly getting there!
