Record Racing Car - Restoration/Rebuild
Bonjour amis!
Recently found a 1/8 on road car on ebay - a Record Racing Car.
It was produced in Switzerland and this one must be a very early version.
The car is quite complete, almost like new. It came with box, built chassis, several parts and a Vette body.
On first inspection the chassis appears very very basic. Funny thing is that the picture on the box looks a bit different (maybe they took photo of Turin Model) to what was acutally inside. The car is the electro version including a big Mabuchi motor.
However i fell in love with that thing and I decided to refurbish this racer. I will post pictures of the rebuild from time to time in this thread.

Questions
The body is out of lexan and it is painted from the inside. It is very very nice.
The motor acutally is a Mabuchi.
For the chassis/suspension/layout it is really very very basic, with a lot of room of improvement.

Designing new parts
For the rebuild i have decided to design some new parts and give the car a "proto" touch:
1. The original radio plate (out of grey plastic) on the chassis does not really offer space/arrangement to mount technical components (such as servo, battery, on-off switch, receiver, ...) properly. So i decided to design and let produce a new one. Item will be made out of 2 mm aluminium with gold anodizing.
2. The front wheel/tire combination looks a bit strange at the moment compared to the rear wheels and in terms of design they do not match very well in my opinion.
Rear wheels measure about 54 mm in diameter. Front wheels only about 35 mm.
So new front wheels with diameter 52 mm will be made (CNC machined). Out of white plastic. New front wheel / rear wheel combination should look more balanced.

New radio plate and front wheel are now in production. When ready i will post some photos.

Installing Wheels & Radio Plate
This evening i again put my magic hands on the chassis.
I installed the new, specially made front wheels and the radio plate. As the new front wheels are bigger than the original ones i had to raise the front axle to get the right rake.
On the radio plate i installed servo, on-off switch, receiver and the battery. The battery box for the receiver i put on the side. So the weight distribution of all compenents is well balanced.
Now, only a few parts missing (such as steering rods; motor connection) to make it work.

Body
Decided to go for a vintage Le Mans Racing look and outfit this racer with a Porsche 917 K body.
Purchased the 1/8 lexan carosserie from loisircreations (Merci beaucoup!) and cut it out properly. It sits well on the chassis.
Later i will give the car the famous Gulf livery, same as numero 21 from Steve McQueens movie "Le Mans".
By the way does someone know where i can get light blue polycarbonat paint?
